M, #701, b. 30 April 1830, d. 6 February 1864

Parents

Family: Mary Ann Hotchkin (b. 6 April 1832, d. 9 November 1920)

Hotchkin-Bartlett marriage
  • Birth: Joseph Bartlett was born on 30 April 1830 in Worthington Township, Hampshire County, Massachusetts.1,2
  • Marriage: He and Mary Ann Hotchkin were married on 20 February 1852 in Watertown, Jefferson, New York, United States.3,1
  • Death: The poor guy enlisted in the OVI (Ohio Volunteer Infantry) the day after Christmas (even though his wife was 5 months pregnant), was sent Tod Barracks in the Columbus area, then given detached duty guarding new recruits en route to Louisville. This would be January 1864. He caught pneumonia from the cold and exposure. The Army sent him home on furlough and he died a week later. Joseph Bartlett died on 6 February 1864 at age 33 in Groton, Huron, Ohio, United States. He was enlisted so briefly that he never received a paycheck which meant he did not appear in the Muster Rolls. His absence in the Muster Rolls gave his widow problems when she applied for a pension.3
